Sometimes, You Just Have to Trust Your Gut
There’s this one spot I drive past almost every day.
And almost every day, I notice the same thing — a school bus sitting there.
Nothing particularly special about it. Just a bus, parked in the same place, on an ordinary street.
But one day, I looked at it a little differently.
I started imagining a whole photoshoot around it.
I wanted to create something that felt cinematic. Something playful, nostalgic, and a little unexpected. I had this image in my head, but I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking for.
So, naturally, I did what any creative person would do — I started searching for movie scenes.
I went down a little rabbit hole of romantic movie moments, looking for that feeling.
And then I saw it.
A poster from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before — with that iconic school bus.
And instantly, I knew.
That was it. That was the session I wanted to create.
There are some ideas you think about for weeks.
And then there are the ones that hit you so suddenly that you just know you have to make them happen.
This was definitely the second kind.
So I called up a friend and asked if she and her boyfriend would be up for doing something a little different.
Thankfully, they said yes.
We got dressed up, grabbed our things, and headed over, hoping — really hoping — that the bus would still be there when we arrived around 5 PM.
Because, of course, there was always the possibility that the entire idea existed only in my head.
But when we got there...
The bus was still there.
We asked security if we could shoot around the spot, fully prepared to hear a no.
Instead, they were completely fine with it.
And honestly, that meant so much to us.
Because these aren't the kinds of things you get to do every day.
Sometimes you just have an idea that feels a little crazy, a little spontaneous, and completely outside your usual routine. And when the people around you are willing to say yes, let's do it, it becomes something really special.
And then, of course, our couple absolutely killed it.
They were natural, fun, and completely in sync. The kind of couple that makes your job easy because the chemistry is already there.
Looking back, I'm so glad I trusted that little voice in my head.
The voice that said, Why not?
The voice that made me stop noticing a school bus as just a school bus and start seeing a story.
Because sometimes the best creative ideas don't come from a perfectly planned concept.
Sometimes they come from something you pass every single day.
Sometimes they come from a random movie poster you stumble across while searching for inspiration.
Sometimes they come from calling a friend and saying, “Hey, do you want to do something crazy with me?”
And sometimes, all you really need to do is trust your gut and your heart.
Because when you do...
the results can be priceless.
